Rectangular, the base and hinged cover chased and engraved with a folaite scroll border on a matted ground, enclosing on the cover an elaborate oval entwined foliate grapevine cartouche enclosing the engraved inscription Robert Branks from his friends in San Francisco Nov., 15th, 1852, marked--2 7/8in. long; in original fitted leather case with gold tooled decoration and initials R.B.
