1961 CADILLAC SERIES 62 CONVERTIBLE
Chassis No. 617074533
Metallic blue with cream leather interior and cream top
Engine: V8, overhead valve, 390ci., 325bhp at 4,800rpm; Gearbox: Hydra-matic three-speed; Suspension: independent front coil springs, rear live axle, coil springs; Brakes: four wheel drums. Left hand drive.
The 1961 Cadillac was restyled to the front with a slanted V-shaped grille between dual front headlights, while the back of the car had ovoid taillamp housings placed on their sides. The market for these large luxury cars was aimed squarely at the wealthy homeowner. Cadillac offered both the Sixty-Two and the De Ville, although only the Sixty-Two was offered as a convertible or a coupe.
This convertible Sixty-Two has been privately owned for a number of years and is offered with a California blue plate license. The Cadillac has been repainted and retrimmed, and now has metallic blue paintwork that is quite acceptable, with a couple of scratches in places. The interior has been completely retrimmed with cream leather upholstery. New sills and some new floor panels were fitted about two years ago. We are informed that the car has received a new motor and also new suspension during its present tenure. We did not take it on a test drive but believe it to be a good driver and potential buyers are recommended to ask for a Christie's condition report. We are told that there is a small leak possibly either from the power steering or transmission. A luxury extra is the sound system with CD player that incorporates a massive amplifier system in the trunk.
The Cadillac has been used in a number of glossy advertising features including an Elle magazine feature from 1999 when the car was used as a prop for actress Denise Richards.
This Cadillc presents an opportunity to purchase a piece of nostalgia and relive the thrill of cruising sixties California stlye!
