1954 CADILLAC ELDORADO CONVERTIBLE

Cadillac has always represented the luxury car standard of the world. This division of General Motors was highly successful; its customer base was loyal and affluent and in the 1950s sales grew at a satisfactory rate. The first major style change occurred with the new model line-up of 1954 when lower sweeping lines were introduced without sacrificing interior space. The wheelbase was increased by three inches, but overall body length remained the same. The new wraparound windshield and the upswept Dagmar bumpers were now standard on all models. Cadillac's intended market was professional businessmen who appreciated the innovative style and expected to be pampered. The Cadillac boasted 230bhp at 4,150rpm with a compression ratio increased to 8.25:1, a four barrel carburetor, a higher lift camshaft and larger intake and exhaust valves. The result was sensational, with 0 to 60mph in just 11.0 seconds.
This example is a 1954 model that was first delivered new to Mr. Alton Walker in Monterey, California. Mr. Walker was one of the original participants in the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance and he lived at the entrance to The Lodge at Pebble Beach. The present enthusiast owner purchased it about thirteen or fourteen years ago. The car was ordered new with plenty of optional extras including power brakes, power steering, window washers, a Wonderbar radio, Cadillac wire wheels, a hard shell tonneau cover and power windows. The mileage showing today is just over 47,000 which appears to be genuine and the whole car has a lovely, original quality. The paintwork is mainly original and the interior trim of red seats with white inserts, red carpets and dark burgundy dash top appears to be in fine, usable order. The panelwork and alignment is all very good and we are told that the car runs nicely. Even some of the original factory decals are still in place. Recently the cooling system has benefited from a new radiator, water pump and hoses and the car has also had new shock absorbers fitted.
Overall this example appears to have led a cherished life, is very original in appearance and should continue to provide much enjoyment for a new owner.
