A changing car market hastened the replacement of the XK140 and Jaguar debuted their XK150 model in mid-1957 as the final variation of the XK120 theme. The XK150 was Coventry's response to the rival BMW 507 and Mercedes-Benz 300SL. All three marques now offered sports cars with performance and refinement to satisfy the growing American demand. Thus the XK150 featured a re-styled bodyshell, re-contoured waistline, wider grille and curved, one-piece windscreen.

This example was built and dispatched in April 1958 and, according to the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, it was supplied by Jaguar Cars New York to the first owner in Atlanta, GA. The original color scheme was actually Mist Grey exterior with light blue interior trim and a French Grey soft top. The present owner first saw the car in 1997 at the Rivertown Carozzeria restoration shop, where it had lain in storage for thirteen years as an unfinished restoration project. He subsequently acquired the car and completed the restoration to its current, superb condition. Rivertown oversaw the project with additional work done by Mr. Bob Lorkowski, a highly respected restorer whose work is well known in vintage car circles. Mechanical work was undertaken by GT Cars in the upper Midwest region who specialize in British and Italian marques. Work on the Jaguar has included a frame-on repaint of the body in black and a subsequent complete retrim in Dove Grey leather upholstery, the result of which is excellent in our opinion. All chromework has been either replated or renewed and the glass is all new. To finish the exterior a new black top was fitted.

Mechanically the engine block has been rebuilt including reboring, new pistons, balanced rods and crankshaft, new water and oil pumps, seals and new gaskets. The head has polished ports, hardened valves and seats, new timing chains and porcelain on the exhaust manifold. The car also has new wiring with the starter, alternator and carburetors all rebuilt as necessary. The clutch is new and the pressure plate is balanced with the crankshaft. The transmission has also been rebuilt with a new mainshaft, bearings and a balance driveshaft. Finally the Jaguar has been fitted with new brakes, chrome wire wheels and the suspension has been rebuilt. The car retains its period Abarth exhaust and also has correct Pirelli tubed radial tires.

We are told that the 3.4 runs very smoothly and is a delight to drive, thanks in particular to the power assisted brakes and rack and pinion steering.
