The new 365 GTB/4 was launched at the 1968 Paris Salon. Almost immediately the motoring press adopted the name Daytona for the new model in honor of Ferrari's outright victory in the famous American twenty-four hour race. This road car was to become the last of the great front-engined Berlinettas and it immediately became highly desirable as a collector's car, even before production finished. The V12 engine developed 355bhp at 7,500 rpm and with a top speed in excess of 180mph, it made the Daytona the fastest production car in the world, a statistic that was to remain with it during the whole of its production life. Styling was by Pininfarina, as usual, and even when standing still, the car suggested that it was capable of great speed. The flexibility of the engine allowed for both gentle driving and long distance touring, the Daytona being capable of covering huge distances effortlessly and quickly.

This 1971 model is an original US specification car with pop-up headlights. It has been repainted at some time in its life and was formerly yellow; the paintwork is generally good and the panelwork is straight with good shut-lines and panel fit. The interior has retrimmed correct black Daytona seats with red inserts, head restraints and grey carpeting. The car has air conditioning and a period radio/8 track cassette player. It stands on polished, triple laced Borrani wheels (the spare is an alloy Cromodora). The engine bay is generally clean and tidy, although not to any particular show standard, while the underside of the car appears dry and somewhat older. A new owner will probably wish to renew the suspension bushes front and rear. Michelin XWX tires are fitted. The car has been stored for the past twelve months and probably needs a full and proper service. The Daytona is sold as seen and without any service history or other relevant paperwork. It is titled in California.

In the 1970s a Ferrari Daytona was the sports car to own and they continue to have a loyal following.
