Cast after a model by Arsène Matton, the figure wearing a loincloth and holding a paddle, standing on the (truncated) prow of a boat, his catch in the hull beneath, the naturalistically cast base signed a Matton, and stamped LN PARIS JL -- 20in. (50.8cm.) high

Lot Essay
Arsène Matton was born in 1873, in Harlebeke, Belgium. He studdied in Brussels but later worked in the Congo, obviously where this particular work was inspired.
