Comprising an archive of correspondence, Commissions signed by George IV and William IV, two sets of epaulettes for the 50th and 80th Regiments in black japanned tins, orignal manuscript on vellum granting the arms of Montgomery to Conway Heatly in 1820 with attached seal, in original morocco box

Lot Essay

Major Frederick Campbell Montgomery was born Frederick Heatly and changed his name to Montgomery by 'Letters Patent' as the direct representative of the Early of Montgomery. Commissioned ensign in 1806, he saw action in the Peninsular War and was ADC to Sir George Donn, Governor of Gibralter and General Sir Montague Burgoyne. He came to Australia with the 50th Regiment in 1833. He sold his commission in 1840 and settled in the Liverpool area of Sydney, New South Wales.
