As pointed out by H. Gerson, Ausbreitung und Nachwirkung der Holländischen Malerei des 17. Jahrhunderts, 1983, p.330, the artist visited the Netherlands. His oeuvre consists of pictures on relatively small size as the present lot, in which Dou's influence is evident.
