Lot Essay

Art by Peter Stausfeld (1910-1980).

Peter Strausfeld designed these distinctive posters for the Academy Cinema, now closed, which used to be situated on Oxford Street. During a period of approximately thirty years, Strausfeld designed over three hundred posters; in the early years only a maximum of one hundred posters would have been printed for each title, rising to three hundred by the mid 1970s.
