The Grecian pattern for this table's plinth-supported pillar with palms and bacchic lion-feet featured in John Loudon's Encyclopedia of Cottage, Farm and Villa Architecture, 1833, no. 1953. In discussing such tables, which were designed en suite with card-tables, he recommended the use of rosewood or some rare foreign wood. The foliage-plume of the pillar, however, initially derived from a table illustrated in George Smith's Collection of Designs for Household Furniture, London, 1808, pl. 75
