Deutsch visited Egypt a number of times in the 1880s and early 1890s. His house in the Pigalle area of Paris was decorated in 'the Islamic manner, with moucharabies, painted ceramic tiles, textiles and metalwork, probably used by him as studio accessories, as was customary with many academic artists of the late 19th Century'.
