The present drawing is closely related to two other works, 'The Chairman's Mirror, Old Bedford Music Hall, High Street Camden Town' (sold in these Rooms, 11 June 1982, lot 22), and 'Joe Haynes, Chairman, Old Bedford Music Hall' (with Thos. Agnew, London, From the Pre-Raphaelites to Picasso II, June-July 1970, no.63).

Suzette Lemaire was the daughter of Madelaine Lemaire, who was the inspiration for Proust's Madame Verdurin and who had one of the most famous salons in Paris. She often spent the summer in Dieppe and was a friend of Sickert
