Each decorated with a hot punched design of snowflakes falling on a snow covered ground, signed Goto Hokyo Ichijo and Kao, the ryohitsu of both pieces plugged with gold, late Edo period, circa 1860, in a box with hakogaki by Amiya (Ogura) Soemon

The establishment Amiya was founded in Tokyo by Ogura Soemon sometime during the early 1900's. Ogura Soemon was the leading dealer and expert on Japanese kodogu, he wrote the small sword fitting's section in Nihonto Koza which is today still a standard work. He is credited with supplying most of the master pieces in the Western world including the Mosle, Halberstaat, Hamburg and some of the Boston Museum Collections.
