Lot Essay

The first tsuka is in Musashi style, as designed and used by the celebrated swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, see "Higo Kinko Taikan" page 445 for a similar example.

It is interesting to note that the menuki illustrated in the form of catfish are almost certainly the work of Misumi Koji. As he is the only Higo artist to make menuki, and the menuki in the form of the aubergines are in Higo style, it is possibly that these too are the the work of Misumi.
