A BLUE LACED TOSEI GUSOKU WITH MUROMACHI HELMET
An iron eight-plate helmet of pre-Akodanari from black lacquered to resemble a thirty-two plate bowl fitted with gilt copper fukurin and igari, copper gilt shinodare and five-stage tehen kanamono bearing small fukigaeshi with fur trimmed neck-guard (shikoro) of kiritsuke kozane; a black lacquered Nara mempo with horse hair moustache; ni-mai tachi do of kiritsuke kebiki odoshi having seven-plate hip-guard (kusazuri); the shoulder guards (chu-sode); armoured sleeves; and thigh guards (Karuta haidate), each piece decorated with the kuruma (wheel) mon, the helmet late Muromachi period (15th/16th century), the rest possibly Momoyama period (late 16th century)
