AN EXECUTIONER'S SWORD in German early 18th Century style, the broad flat double-edged blade with rounded tip pierced with three circular holes and with short central fuller on each face of the forte, struck with a mark on one side and etched with a seated figure of a bishop above a panel dated 1712 and inscribed 'Soli Deo Gloria', a punishment wheel and the inscription 'Oh. Richter. richte. gerecht', and on the other with the figure of Justice, a gallows and the inscription 'Sonsnt. wird. Gott. richten.
