A RIDING-SWORD with double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section with ricasso and central fuller on each face of the forte incised respectively 'Me Fecit' and 'Solingen', and struck with 'S', cross and 'twigg' marks, the guard of slender bars comprising strongly vertically recurved quillons, arms with, on the outside, side-rings above and below, the space between filled by a diagonal and an upcurved bar, and with trifurcated bar on the inner side, barrel-shaped pommel, and writhen wooden grip loosely bound with twisted wire (some pitting overall), early 17th Century, probably English
