The hilt is an exceptionally fine version of Norman's Type 76 (The Rapier and Small-Sword, pp. 149-50). Plain examples are in the Livrustkammeren, Stockholm, and the Schweizerisches Landesmuseum, Zürich. Compare also with the guard of rapier No. A639 in the Wallace Collection
