A PAIR OF FRENCH NAVAL OFFICER'S SILVER-MOUNTED FLINTLOCK BELT PISTOLS with blued barrels punched and gilt with a trophy of arms and foliage at the breech and with a sun in slendour, plain tang and long engraved silver strip forming a back-strap, signed rounded locks inscribed 'Duché' below each steel-spring, figured walnut half-stocks carved with a flowerhead on each side of the butt and with waved borders, the butt with dog's head pommel set with engraved silver ears and mother-of-pearl eyes, engraved mounts including trigger-guards with owner's initials and extending to form a barrel-band incorporating the fore-sight, iron belt hooks, original iron ramrods with turned tips, and some original finish, by Machat A Tulle, circa 1780
