One of Guigal's most extraordinary wines is the 1990 Condrieu Luminescence. The wine is 100 Viognier, the result of the exceptional nature of the '99 vintage in the Northern Rhône Valley, particularly in the appellation of Condrieu. Springtime hail had reduced the Condrieu crop by 40 in many vineyards, and a dry early vintage strongly influenced by a rare "Sirocco" (hot wind from Africa) produced white grapes of exceptional richness and concentration. Luminescence is a unique wine fashioned by extraordinary vintage conditions and is one that Guigal will likely never produce again.
Straw yellow to amber gold. An intensely deep and elegant aromatic bouquet, with very marked notes-above all of apricot. Undertones of white peaches, pears and lychees. Very round and full.
Most striking is the match between elegance and depth. An opulent texture gives assurance that this great Condrieu will keep and improve for many years. A wonderful and historic wine from Guigal.
