Lot Essay

Soufflot, the son of a rich merchant of Auxerre, was sent to Rome in 1734 under the protection of the French ambassador, the duc de Saint-Aignan, and was admitted in the French Academy. He left in 1737 to live in Lyon. He is best known as the architect of the Panthéon in Paris
