the case with foliate-cast basket top with addorsed foliate-tied dolphin handle, later finials, inhabited foliate-cast frets to the glazed sides, similar sound fret to the front door, gilt-metal front feet and ebonised rear feet, the 15.5cm. sq. dial with silvered chapter ring with pierced blued hands, the matted centre with calendar aperture below XII, well cast winged cherub spandrels, strike/silent lever above XII, the twin gut fusee movement with five baluster pillars, later anchor escapement, strike on bell and now lacking pull quarter repeat system, the backplate signed Charles Lowndes in Pallmall within a foliate engraved cartouche within further tulip engraving amongst scrolling foliage, the movement secured with bolts into the base pillars

Charles Lowndes, born Iirca 1660, is recorded as being probably the son of Johnathon Lowndes but more likely the brother. Apprenticed to Thomas Player and worked in Pall Mall from 1707.
