DENT. A FINE 18 carat KEYLESS OPENFACE SPLIT SECOND CHRONOGRAPH POCKETWATCH

the frosted gilt three-quarter plate movement with bimetallic balance, English lever escapement jewelled to the centre with screwed chatons, the chronograph mechanism planted on the top plate, the white enamel dial with Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds, blued steel spade hands, outer seconds ring with two sweep centre seconds operated by the crown and a second button in the band, in plain case with engraved monogram RD to the reverse and to the inside of the back cover, hallmarked London 1880, the dial and movement signed and numbered, the case numbered - 52mm. diam.

Lot Essay

Reginald Day (1183-1972), whose initials are on the case, was trainer for the South African mining magnate Sir Abe Bailey. He won the Ascot Gold Cup in 1927 on Foxlaw which he had also trained and this watch was presented to him by Sir Abe Bailey as an expression of his gratitude.
