This ring belonged to Jean de Dieu-Raymond de Boisgelin (1732-1804), Bishop of Lavaur in 1765, Archbishop of Aix in 1770, Archbishop of Tours in 1802 and Cardinal in 1803. Hostile to the Revolution, he emigrated in 1792, but returned to France in 1801 and showed a favourable attitude towards Napoleon who styled him grand-officer of the Légion d'Honneur.
