Provenance
The presence of coat-of-arms of Auguste the Strong (1670-1733), Elector of Saxony and King of Poland, certify the prestigious provenance of this pair of covered dishes. This monarch organized somptuous receptions in his residences of Pillnitz and Dresden, documented in contemporary prints and descriptions.
Despite he had excellent silversmiths working for him in Dresden, the accelerated rhythm of his amazing commands obliged him to order plate outside Saxony, specially in Augsburg, the most important centre for this kind of object (this is prooved by a drawings compilation today in the Bibliothèque des Arts Décoratifs in Paris).
