The views depicted are all residences of King Stanislas in Lorraine: on the cover, Les Roches at Lunéville, on the front, the state apartments at La Malgrange, on the base, Commercy, on the back, La Malgrange, on the left hand wall, the Pavillion of Chanteleux at Lunéville, and on the right hand wall, the Chinoiserie Trèfle at Lunéville, all after engravings by J.-C. François Lotharing in Emmanuel Héré de Corny, premier architecte de Sa Majesté, Recueil, Plans, Elévations et Coupes...des châteaux, jardins et dépendances que le Roy de Pologne occupe en Lorraine (Paris, n.d. circa 1750).

Jean Ducrollay is amongst the most esteemed Paris goldsmiths. Born in 1709 he struck his mark on 26 July, 1734, when he was living in the Rue Lamoignon, where he remained until August 1748, when he had moved to the Place Dauphine.
