At least four other versions are known. A version dated 1624 and measuring 48 x 84cm. is in the Niedsächsische Landesgalerie, Hanover. A small (27.5 x 35.5cm.) unsigned version offered in these Rooms on 1 December 1978, lot 104, when described as on copper is possibly the panel sold at Sotheby's on 12 December 1984, lot 50. An even smaller version on copper with a standing figure in place of the piper at bottom left was sold in these Rooms, 23 May 1986, lot 99. A fourth version, of approximately the same size, on panel and signed with monogram and dated 1628, in which the rocky escarpment on the left is replaced by a wood, was sold in these Rooms on 10 December 1993, lot 205.
