Lot Essay

This cup was probably made by a French Huguenot silversmith who fled France to London due to the Révocation de l'Edit de Nantes signed by King Louis XIV in Fontainebleau in 1685.

This cup is very close to another cup which is covered, illustrated in Le Poinçon des Provinces Françaises, Jacques Helft, Juridiction d'Angers, pl. XXV.
