This type of candlestick pre-dates the grotesque figures made a few years later by Dinglinger who worked for the courts of Saxony and Poland.
They were used to decorate the gorgeous tables set in the honour of the silver mines which provided Saxony with great wealth. In 1719, such an event happened near Dresde and was engraved by Ch. J. Fehlinck. This engraving is inscribed: Die Kgl Taffel... Wobey alle Bergmännische Arbeit vorgestellt, wie solche am Berg-Werks-Feste, im plauischen Grund, ohnweit Dresden gestanden.
At the same time, coupes of different sizes representing mines and minors were displayed in their different activities. Still in 1750, such objects were made of porcelain by Kaendler who was inspired by Christoph Wenzel's models.
