The signature on the counter enamel of the portrait reads: "P. Boÿ. pinxit. ffurt 1682.".

Jean-Joseph Barrière, one of the most prolific of the Paris gold box makers, became master in 1763. He had premises on pont Notre-Dame until its demolition in 1786 when he moved to the rue du Coq-St-Honoré where he is recorded until 1793.
