A SCANDINAVIAN SILVER-MOUNTED CARVED-WALNUT TANKARD
maker's mark IC or IG, struck twice, circa 1720
The cylindrical walnut body carved with three rows of birds, rabbits, and dogs amongst trailing flowers and foliage, each row bordered above and below with stiff foliate bands, the central row carved to the front with a bear with a banner above dated 1722, the silver-mounted S-scroll handle terminating in a dog head, the silver-mounted flat-domed cover chased with a band of acanthus leaves and centred with a monogram, with seahorse-shaped thumb-piece - 21 cm high
