Lot Essay

Anna Paulovna (1795-1865), daughter of Tsar Paul I of Russia and his wife Maria Feodorovna, was married to the future King William II of the Netherlands in 1816. Autissier is known to have worked for King William I of the Netherlands on several occasions (see Lucien Lemaire, Autissier, Lille 1912, pp. 67, 70, 141, 142, 144), and the present miniature was probably painted in 1816, the year Autissier exhibited in the Amsterdam Salon.
