Further details
Note: There had been some controversy following its discovery, over whether the departure c.d.s. read Kadem Sherif (a small station a few kilometres south of Damascus at the start of the line from Hamadie to Hejaz) or Kuds Sherif. That it is the former has been proved by Samuel Zerbib in his two articles in the S.I.P. in 1989 (pp. 5760 and 6010). In 1905, a branch line was opened from Dera to Haifa, thereby connecting the Hejaz Railway to the coast.
