KOBERLE. A LARGE PRE-BALANCE SPRING VERGE WATCH MOVEMENT IN PURPOSE-BUILT CASE
signed Wilhelm Koberle, circa 1680

with gilt full-plate movement, turned baluster pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, oval pierced and engraved balance cock, bow and arrow set-up scale on the back plate, contained in a purpose-built oxidized copper case of 16th Century German design, entirely pierced and florally engraved, the matching dial with touch studs and single steel hands, movement signed - 74 mm diam.

Lot Essay

Wilhelm Koberle is recorded as working in Eichstatt from circa 1680 to circa 1715. The movement is clearly from a small coach watch or possibly clock, re-cased in earlier style. A hairspring has been added but without altering the movement.
