Another version, close save for minor details, 13 x 16in., was in the Leverhulme sale, Anderson's, New York, 2-4 March 1926, lot 353, repr.), and a variant with a different landscape setting, 7 7/8 x 10½in., dated 1798, is in the Albertina, Vienna (see M. Webster, Francis Wheatley, 1970, p.80, repr. fig. 107). A version of the composition was engraved in stipple by I. Geremia and published on 1 May 1804 (see Webster, op.cit., p.188, no.E161)
