Lot Essay

A view overlooking the valley of the Eurotas in the Peloponnese with the range of the Taiyetos Mountains beyond. The remains of the Byzantine city of Mistra climb the lower slopes of the range, about four miles west of Sparta. Lear explored the Peloponnese in the company of Franklin Lushington in March and April 1849
