Shaped circular and with gadrooned borders, each engraved with a lozenge of arms and a later coat-of-arms, marked on reverse - 24.5cm. (9¾in.) diam.

Lot Essay

The lozenge of arms are those of Seymour impaling Finch, for Lady Charlotte Finch, Duchess of Somerset (d.1773), widow of Charles, 6th Duke of Somerset, "The Proud Duke", (1662-1748), whom she married as his second wife on 4th February 1725. She was daughter of Daniel, 7th Earl of Winchelsea (d.1720/30) and his second wife, Anne, only daughter of Christopher, Viscount Hatton.
