Rectangular brass-bound burr-wood casket lined with gold-stamped red morocco, the inside of the cover with a mirror concealing a letter pouch in green morocco, the base containing four trays fitted with implements including a silver shaving bowl by P. Taratte, porcelain cup and saucer, cut glass tumbler, a pair of silver-topped scent bottles, a pair of ink bottles with stamped silver tops by J. L. Varin, silver eye-bath with ebony holder and silver funnel by J. L. Varin, mother-of-pearl and ebony pill-container, a pair of steel boot jacks, the first tray with silver tooth brush, moustache brush and tongue cleaner by J. L. Varin, razor strop, silver tea spoon by Augustin-Louis Cottin, white pen and pencil holder, the second tray with silver-mounted mother-of-pearl pen knife, nail file, scissors, screw, hook, white needle case, tweezers with incorporated ear cleaner, the last tray with toothpick, two picks, two razors, and a folding knife; three secret compartments, one opening with hidden spring -- the casket 271 x 187 x 101 mm.

The lid of the casket and several objects inside are engraved with the initials "NM" confirming the provenance from the de M*** family from Fribourg.
