Philip, Duke of Parma, with short powdered wig and black wig-bag, wearing a fur-lined gold embroidered purple velvet coat and white lace jabot, decorated with the jewel of the Order of the Golden Fleece and the blue sash and the breast-star of the Royal French Order of the Saint-Esprit; oval -- 35 mm high, gilt-metal frame with plain reverse.

Lot Essay

Don Philip (1720-1765), Infant and Grand Admiral of Spain, was a son of Philip V of Spain and his wife Élisabeth Farnese (see following lot). He was a younger brother of King Charles III of Spain (see lot 364). In 1739, he married Louise-Élisabeth, a daughter of King Louis XV of France. They had three children: Ferdinand, later Duke of Parma, Isabella, wife of the future Emperor Joseph II of the Holy Roman Empire, and Maria-Luisa, wife of the future King Charles IV of Spain (see lots 357, 365 and 371).
