A double-sided medallion containing the miniatures of two Spanish princesses wearing low-cut white dresses, one with a double strand of pearls in her curly brown hair, wearing gold earrings, a gold chain with a jewelled crescent pendant around her neck, the badge of the Starry Cross Order attached at her décolleté, a pink shawl draped about her shoulders, the other princess with curly short dark hair, wearing a quadruple pearl necklace -- both 56 mm diam., one with hairline crack at base, gilt-metal frame.

Lot Essay

The identities of the sitters have been suggested as Carlota, daughter of Don Manuel Godoy (the lady with the pink shawl) and as Maria-Luisa (1782-1824), Queen of Etruria, for the other lady.
