Referred to by Chanel as the "most elegant woman in the world", Countess Mona Bismarck also had an exquisite taste in jewels. Born Mona Travis Strader, the daughter of a horse breeder, she grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. A great beauty, she became one of the shining stars of high society upon her marriage to the famed financial and electricity magnate, Harrison Williams, one of the wealthiest men in the United States. Avidly followed by the press, the striking couple became one of the most talked about in America. Dividing their time between their residences in New York, Long Island, Palm Beach and Capri, they lived happily until Williams death in 1953. Soon afterwards, Mona married Count Edward Bismarck, grandson of the famous German Chancellor. The couple lived in Paris until Bismarck's death in 1970.
