Hamburg circa 1660, maker's mark of Erich Hanssen

On circular domed foot, chased with auricular motifs on matted ground, the cylindrical body with applied sleeve chased with a central scene depicting the infant Christ with St. John the Baptist, surrounded by scenes of putti picking fruits and flowers, with auricular foliate scroll-handle, the domed cover with bifurcated thumbpiece and ball finial, engraved under the base with two coats-of-arms beneath helmets with crests and pluming, initials "HE" and "EE" and the date "1660", marked on foot, rim of body and cover - 24 cm (9½ in) high

The arms are those of the two Hamburg families Edingh and van Spreckelsen.
