Lot Essay

Toulouse silversmiths developed in the second part of the 18th century a local, extremely original style of rocaille chasing. Although Louis and Barthélémy Samson are most famous for it, Louis Dulaurier produced several pieces of equal merit, as attested by the present box and a pair of candlesticks made in 1763 (cf. Orfèvrerie Toulousaine au 18è siècle, catalogue no. 17).
