A RARE FRENCH SILVER SUGAR CASTER
Dunkerque 1696, maker's mark of Jean Willems

Cylindrical and applied with corded borders, the plain body engraved with a coat-of-arms beneath ecclesiastical hat, the cover with bayonet fitting and pierced with fleur-de-lys and rosettes, applied at the top with cut-card work and bell-shaped finial, marked on base and cover - 18.5 cm (7¼ in) high
3,300 grs.

Lot Essay

The arms are those of Mgr. de Ratabon, Bishop of Ypres.
