8° (206 x 128mm). Folding genealogical tables. Cream calf gilt, red morocco onlays, painted decoration in green and red, COLOURED ARMS OF MARIA LECZINSKA on central oval cream calf onlays, spine decorated in green and red, blue silk doublures and liners, g.e. BY PIERRE-PAUL DUBUISSON (with his large engraved label on the endpaper). In modern buckram box, (light scuffing at joints and spine). Provenance: Maria Leczinska, Queen of Louis XV (1703-1768, binding); Felix Doistau, (sale 1910, lot 22). FIRST EDITION, LIMITED TO 30 COPIES, the text is revised by Voltaire. This precedes the illustrated 4° edition of 1751.

A VERY FINE EXAMPLE OF DUBUISSON'S WORK, WITH A DISTINGUISHED PROVENANCE. Lot 1771 in the Schiff sale (Sotheby's, 7.12.38) appears to have been intended as a companion to this volume, also bound by Dubuisson. It contains the Oeuvres du Philosophe de Sans-Souci by Frederick the Great, has an identical spine, also with the arms of Maria Leczinska (but on covers employing a different plaque).
