ATTRIBUTED TO LEFEVRE, circa 1755

Maria-Josepha of Saxony, Crown Princess of France, seated on a terrace in an armchair and holding a book, wearing a white pleated lace mob-cap tied with a knotted blue silk ribbon, a light grey satin dress with white embroidered lace borders and sleeves, embellished with blue silk bows, decorated with the badges of the Imperial Russian Order of Saint-Catherine and of the Starry Cross Order; on vellum, rectangular -- 55 x 76 mm, gilt-metal mount within a silver-gilt frame with faceted border.

Lot Essay

Marie-Josèphe (1731-1767), daughter of Elector Augustus III of Saxony, was married in 1747 to the Dauphin Louis, the only son of King Louis XV of France. Their five surviving children were the three future French Kings Louis XVI (see lots 252 and 255), Louis XVIII (see lots 247 and 259), Charles X (see lot 265), the future Queen of Sardinia, Clotilde, and the ill-fated Madame Élisabeth.
