JOSEPH-MARIE BOUTON, signed, circa 1793/1795

Antonin-Pascal Bouisset-Albaret standing against a brick-wall, his curly brown hair tied with a black ribbon, wearing a rust-brown coat over a white waistcoat with open shirt -- 75 mm diameter, gold frame, the glazed reverse painted on vellum with initials "BM" surmounted by a lyre, above love symbols.

Lot Essay

Antonin-Pascal Bouisset-Albaret is said to have worked for the Compagnie des Indes. A later copy after the present miniature, unsigned and of smaller size, was sold Paris, Hôtel Drouot, room 3, 30 March 1992, lot 130.
