Marillier, 'Avis' on verso, letterpress title to volume I, 2 engraved titles, 2 plates and 99 pairs of head- and tail-pieces by De Ghendt, De Launay Baquoy, Ponce and others after Marillier. (Plate in volume I extended at outer margin.) 19th-century mottled calf gilt, front cover with coronetted croix ancrée, spine in six compartments with floral tools, blue morocco lettering-piece in one (extremities slightly rubbed). Edition on petit papier. The present copy collates as described by Ray, but with the same engraved plate repeated at the start of volumes I and II, as described by Cohen-de Ricci. (Very slight spotting, lower outer margin of p. 227 soiled.) Contemporary red morocco gilt, covers with floral and foliate roll-tool border, spine in six compartments with floral tools, lettered in one, g.e. (skillful repairs to joints, corners slightly bumped). Provenance: J. Gintyll (bookplate).
