Letterpress title and engraved title to each volume, engraved portrait of Gravelot by Gaucher after Delatour, engraved portrait of Cochin by Gaucher after Monnet, 202 engraved plates of allegorical figures, by N. de Launay, Delongeuil, Baquoy and others after Gravelot and Cochin. (Plate of 'La Douceur' in vol. I with clean tear to lower margin, not affecting platemark area.) Uniform contemporary tree calf gilt, spines in six compartments with blue morocco lettering-pieces, g.e. (extremities very lightly rubbed).
LARGE-PAPER ISSUE in fine condition. 198 of the 202 allegorical plates are the same as those used in Gravelot and Cochin's Almanach Iconologique pour l'année 1765 et . . . jusqu'à 1781. The remaining plates include two adapted from the previous work, and two entirely new engravings. There are two editions of the text: one printed by Migneret circa 1789, and one, in a slightly larger format, by Clousier, circa 1791.
