the highly engraved gilt movement with duplex escapement, plain steel five arm balance, gold chased cuvette, the white enamel dial with Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds, pierced gold hands, the case with red and blue enamel decoration to the rim and bezel, the reverse with painted enamel scene by Richter of a lady tending her animals while crossing a bridge with a water mill in the background, red and blue enamel decoration to the pendant and bow, movement signed- 60mm diam.
Literature
The original motif of this scene can be traced to the hand-coloured etching Les Moulins de Gravin by Louis-Albert Guillain, Baron Bacler d'Albe (1761-1848), in the Cabinet des Estampes, Geneva, and is illustrated in Hans Boeckh, "Jean-Louis Richter, peintre genevois sur émail (1766-1841): son mode de travail et le choix de ses motifs", Genava, XXXI, 1983, p. 116.
